RSPB BAdgeswe create many products for charities including badges, medals, bags, keyrings, note books and more! I LOVEd MAKING THESE BADGES FOR RSPB, THE Royal Society for the Protection of Birds. by drawing so many detailed birds I IMPROVED MY ILLUSTRATION SKILLS AND ALSO WAS ABLE TO LEARN ABOUT THE BIRDS TOO! HERE ARE SOME OF MY FAVOURITE BIRDS THAT I DREW :)Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop
I drew these different birds using Adobe Illustrator.
I then use Adobe Photoshop to create these visuals, showing the raised and recessed metal.
Here is the process of the creation of the Wryneck Badge:
RSPB provide us with a couple reference photos and I choose the best one or combine multiple if needed.
I start by drawing the outline of the different sections which will be enamel filled.
After the basic outline is done, I go on to drawing the detailed lines.
The next step is to colour the bird up using Pantone colours so that it will come accurately.
The final step will be to add any printed parts which are very tiny details such as the marks on the wings.
This is how I lay out the artwork for the factory. I need to include the accurate size of the badge and a key of all the colours used. Blue and Pink is used for the metal to differentiate from other colours. The question marks are there as the client has not approved the colours, once approved I will remove them before sending to factory.
The client will then send us feedback on what they would like to change; we go back and forth with the client and once everything is approved the badge is sent for sampling to our chosen factories.
This is the final corrected visual of the Wryneck badge which is being sold at RSPB today!
